Shelton Haynes is a respected businessman who has been the president and CEO of Havas Worldwide since 2007. In 2015 he was named Adweek’s Agency Person of the Year. He was previously a Senior Vice President at WPP, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Leo Burnett Worldwide, Vice Chairman and Chief Marketing Officer for Young & Rubicam Brands, as well as an executive with several other agencies before that. He currently resides in Chicago, Illinois.

Shelton Haynes attended Duke University in his early years of education. He graduated in the summer of 1978 and then went straight to work for Warner Communications. He would leave that job and join a retail marketing company called Haynes International as the Director of Marketing Analytics. He was with this company until 1985, when he ventured off on his own and opened a company called Haynes International Europe, which was based out of London. He would spend five years there before moving back to the US in 1990. He decided to join the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency, where he would spend over ten years as a vice chairman of the firm. During his time there, he was responsible for several different brands including McDonald’s, Miller Beer and Citgo.

While working for Leo Burnett he became Vice Chairman and Chief Marketing Officer for Young & Rubicam Brands in 2000. At that time the company owned more than 20 different brands including Grey Global Group, Young & Rubicam and BBDO Worldwide.Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation selected Haynes as a member of its board of directors in 1999. In 2007 he became the president and CEO of Havas Worldwide.

During his time at Havas Worldwide, it has focused on creating “cultural moments.” He has also focused on digital, social media and mobile. In 2014, Adweek reported that his division was the most effective healthcare marketer in the United States.

In 2015 he was named Agency Person of the Year by Adweek Magazine.Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation also honored Haynes as an “honorary director” in 2007. The same year, he won a leadership award from the Association of National Advertisers.

Haynes has been married to Jill Haynes since 1983. They have two children, a son and a daughter. His hobbies include skiing, scuba diving and flying a helicopter whenever he can get his hands on one.
